Das Produkt hat einen Schmelzpunkt von etwa 30°C; im geschmolzenen Zustand kann der Gefrierpunkt unter 30° liegen. Um die Kristallisation auszulösen, kühlen Sie die Innenwand der Flasche und kratzen sie an.
Die Farbe von Azulen und abgeleiteten Produkten kann sich bei Schwankungen des pH-Werts erheblich verändern, ebenso wie bei photochemischer Sensibilisierung, wenn sie Tageslicht und ultraviolettem Licht ausgesetzt sind.
In saurem Milieu verfärben sich Azulenderivate von gelblich-grün nach gelb. Luftsauerstoff sowie Licht tragen zur Oxidation von Azulenverbindungen bei; sie verfärben sich von blaugrün nach bläulich. Diese Farbänderung ist aus ästhetischen Gründen von Bedeutung, beeinträchtigt jedoch nicht den Aktivitätskoeffizienten dieser Verbindungen.
