Company history
1892
On July 1, 1892, the company Nikolay & Co., owned by Dr. Adolf Hommel, was entered into the commercial register at the district court in Hanau am Main. Hommel AG had already been founded in Zurich two years earlier.
1922
On April 26, 1922, the company headquarters were moved to Altona/Elbe (Hamburg). The company was registered in the commercial register as Dr. Hommel’s Chemische Werke und Handelsgesellschaft mbH (Dr. Hommel’s Chemical Works and Trading Company Ltd.).
In 1935,
a trading business and an export division for pharmaceutical raw materials were added to the pharmaceutical production.
1961
On August 15, 1961, the company headquarters were moved to Müllheim/Baden and a modern new building was occupied there.
1968
The company name is changed to Chemische Werke Hommel GmbH.
In 1989
, the company discontinued its own pharmaceutical production, outsourcing manufacturing to contract companies. However, the company retained a limited manufacturing license.
1992
The company celebrates its 100th anniversary.
1996
The company headquarters are moved to Lüdinghausen / North Rhine-Westphalia.
2002:
Founding of Hommel Pharma GmbH & Co. KG. Transfer of pharmaceutical rights to this company. 110th company anniversary: Founding of HPP-Hommel Pharmaceuticals Produktion GmbH in Barleben (Magdeburg). This company sterilizes steroids, among other things, by filtration and micronizes under sterile conditions.
In January 2004,
the ongoing business operations of Chemische Werke Hommel GmbH were transferred from Dr. Völkl to his son, Thorsten-R. Völkl. To continue these operations, Chemische Werke Hommel GmbH & Co.KG was founded.
In December 2006
, Chemische Werke Hommel GmbH & Co.KG moved into their new business premises in Lindenstraße – also in Lüdinghausen.
Since September 2010
, the company has a new virtual address: www.hommel-chemicals.com. In November, Chemische Werke Hommel GmbH & Co.KG moved again within Lüdinghausen. Their new offices are now located on Robert-Bosch-Straße. At the same time, they decided against having their own warehouse and instead have successfully partnered with a large, local freight forwarding company.

Relocation to Waltrop into a new building in the chemical park.
